MOTHER MARY VERONICA

FOUNDRESS OF THE APOSTOLIC CARMEL 1823 - 1906

The seed of the Apostolic Carmel was sown in the heart of a woman , Who little realized the greatness of the Mission , She was led by an inner call first to the catholic faith in 1850 and to the Religious Life in the following year taking the name of Sister Mary Veronica of the passion of Jesus. Being sent to India in 1861, She fell on her knees on reaching its shores and kissed the ground of the country , fill of zeal to begin her work! Among its people it was only in 1870, after much struggle and ! many difficulties, Mother Veronica established the Apostolic Carmel Congregation at St. Ann's Convent , Mangalore, a providential response to the need expressed for a Teaching Order of Sisters in the West Coast of India . At present our educational institutions have spread over the length and breadth of India and Sri. Lanka , reaching even to Pakistan , Kuwait, Kenya , Italy , Bahrain , Tanzania and France .

Mother Veronica passed away on 16th November 1906 but the work begun by her rooted in the contemplative spirit of Carmel and nourished by its life of prayer and zeal is kept alive by the Sisters of the Apostolic Carmel , in the active Apostolate of Education and other works of mercy, to dedicate our lives to Him and to His service , in the World , to be closely united with Him in prayer, to lead others especially youth towards the TRUTH .

This is the message that Mother Veronica, Founders' of the Sisters Apostolic Carmel , a woman of deep faith and incessant prayer , gave to the Congregation of the Apostolic Carmel Sisters .
